The DACS Linux Special Interest Group (SIG) deals with all aspects of software and hardware as they relate to running and using a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Fedora. Focus usually shifts to what attendees need to know. Also we help each other with our own knowledge and experience gaps.
Our topics and discussions are usually short and wide-ranging leaving lots of time for demonstrations and methods of installing, maintaining or correcting Linux software. We help new Linux users to become more comfortable with their computer systems.
We work with attendees having greatly varying levels of computer experience (beginner, intermediate or advanced)–to install Linux operating systems and other software. Apple and Windows computer users may choose to add a Linux partition to their systems to allow starting their computer in a Linux distribution. When doing this, the user can immediately take advantage of a large amount of free, open-source, application software.
Our presentations and demonstrations sometimes use specialized hardware such as the Arduino Uno or the Raspberry Pi. We run these devices using a Linux distribution of some kind. Discussions include the electronics, wiring and programming code necessary to run these devices with their designed application.
