Opening & Recurring Monthly Meeting Activities
- Board Meeting Called to Order at 7:10pm by President Dick Gingras.
- Attendance: Dick Gingras, Bert Goff, Lisa Leifels, Jim Scheef, Cathy Quaranta, Andy Woodruff.
- Observers: Steve Harkness (recording minutes).
Meeting Topics
- June Meeting Minutes unanimously approved.
- Membership report. See Bert’s submitted worksheet.
.. 60 DACS Newsletters are now printed each month for mailing & other distribution.
.. 48 DACS Newsletters were mailed out last month.
.. For September newsletters: 29 to be mailed to members + 17 promotional mail = 46 to be mailed.
.. Charlie mails post cards to those with overdue membership dues.
.. There are currently 14 expired memberships
.. Previous months DACS Newsletters are available to members and non-members for free at each monthly meeting.
.. Current month DACS Newsletters are available for $2.00 each to members and non-members at each monthly meeting.
- Attendance Report: 39 people were at our July 7th monthly meeting; 30 members, 9 guests.
- Treasurer’s Report by Bert submitted separately.
- Program Committee Report by Lisa:
.. July 7th DACS meeting subject: Presentation was on Internet Security, with Ira Wilsker conducting an online audio session from Texas, with slides shown from the podium by Andy.
.. General consensus is that it was a great informative meeting.
.. The technique of offsite presenter with onsite slides was very effective.
.. Andy & Lisa effectively tested the technique twice before the actual meeting night.
.. Danbury Hospital does not allow Skype. We are to use voice over phone, then transmit the phone to the hospital sound system.
- Microsoft is having a Windows 10 launch breakfast event July 29th 8-10am at their Danbury Mall store.
.. Dick is in communication with the Microsoft manager, Carolyn, to plan future MS/DACS informative hardware/software product sessions.
- Dick has registered to attend the APCUG annual conference September 25th.
- Jim Scheef is working with the WCSU interns assigned to help DACS by Tom Zarecki
- Jim Scheef will write the procedure for “Starting & Running a DACS Workshop”. The procedure will include steps to notify & update webmasters, Meetup, securing a public venue, steps for using our Resource Center, etc. Membership Committee will approve the procedure.
- The Board has continued discussing the DACS Tag Line recommendations on many occasions.
.. Current tag line approved by the Marketing Committee: “From mobile to desktop, we inform, enlighten, and educate”.
.. The Board voted and APPROVED… 5 votes to approve; 1 vote to disapprove.
.. The new tag line will be used consistently across all media.
- The Marketing Committee is preparing for the Hacker Fair to be held on October 17th at the Danbury Library complex.
- Future meeting plans:
.. August: Jay Ferron to present MS Windows 10.
.. September: open
.. October: Mike Kaltschnee to present: Building an Android Application.
- Tom Zarecki is continuing to plan and implement our Social Media Workshop.
- Dick will email our membership on the level of interest in a possible Charter Video Workshop.
- Our DACS Forum website is now active and shows 7 DACS members using it.
.. We need to develop a method of publishing and alerting people to some interesting subjects on the Forum.
.. We need to put the Forum Index on the DACS website.
.. We might require a person to login to the Forum after querying a certain number of screens.
.. We could create some 3 minute videos on various Forum subjects.
