Here we are in month two of the DACS transition. This may seem like a sudden change, but the board has been working on this for well over a year. Please don’t look on this as the end of DACS. On the DACS side, we are shedding a heavy organizational structure to become more manageable. The corporate structure was needed when we had hundreds of members. Now, our goal is to transition into a more flexible group as part of the Danbury Hackerspace.
Early in our planning, the board realized that we would need to refund unused dues. DACS is not a seasonal organization and people can join at any time of the year, so no matter when we pick, various members will be at different points in their “membership year”. Once we reached an agreement with the Hackerspace, we stopped accepting dues payments, in January of this year, and picked March 31st as the last date of membership in DACS. Refunds will begin next week and will be completed by the end of May. Even with less than a hundred members, it takes time to write the checks and address envelopes. Hopefully those who paid using PayPal will be able to receive their refunds the same way, either into your PayPal account or as a credit to your credit card. We’re working out the details.
Meanwhile we continue to plan our monthly meetings at Danbury Hospital. John Patrick returns this month; don’t miss it!
